A little regular work beats a big weekend clean-up. Use this routine to keep paint, glass and interior in good shape.

How do I keep my car clean?

Weekly: remove trash and quick vacuum. Every two to four weeks: wash in the shade with car soap and microfiber. Every few months: wax or sealant and deeper interior clean.

Use products made for cars, not household cleaners.

Keeping the interior clean

  • Remove trash and loose items weekly.
  • Vacuum seats, mats and carpets, and use a crevice tool.
  • Wipe hard surfaces with a damp microfiber and a mild interior cleaner.
  • Clean glass with a cleaner that is safe for tinted windows (avoid ammonia on tint).
  • Use all-weather mats, and shake them out regularly.

Washing the exterior safely

  1. Park in the shade and let the paint cool.
  2. Rinse off loose dirt first.
  3. Wash with car shampoo (not dish soap) and a clean wash mitt, working top to bottom.
  4. Rinse, then dry with microfiber to avoid water spots.
  5. Apply wax or sealant every few months for protection.
