Section 02 — Most Misunderstood Fact

Both Programs Pay the
Exact Same Wholesale Price

This is the most important and most misunderstood fact about these two programs. AMSOIL Dealers and Preferred Customers pay the exact same wholesale price on every product — approximately 25% off suggested retail. There is no secret deeper discount for dealers on personal purchases.

I have been asked this question hundreds of times over 20 years: “Do dealers get a better price?” The answer is no. When an AMSOIL Dealer buys products for their own engine, they pay the same as a Preferred Customer buying for their engine. The Dealer’s financial advantage comes only from commissions earned when they sell to others.

Preferred Customer

25%

off retail on all products

+ Birthday coupon
+ $5-back rewards
+ Exclusive promotions

AMSOIL Dealer

25%

off retail on all products

+ Earn commissions on sales
+ Sponsor other dealers
+ Build residual income

The decision is not about price — it’s about what else you want. If the same 25% savings is available both ways, the only question is: do you want to keep it simple at $20/year (Preferred Customer), or pay $100/year in exchange for the ability to earn commissions and build a business (Dealer)? Everything else on this page helps you answer that question for your specific situation.

Section 04 — 2025 Update

AMSOIL Doubled the Dealer Fee in 2025
What It Means for Your Decision

In 2025, AMSOIL increased the annual Dealer registration fee from $50 to $100. This was a significant change — doubling the cost of entry into the dealer program. It has directly affected the break-even calculation for new dealers and made the Preferred Customer program an even stronger value proposition for personal buyers.

How the Break-Even Changes

Scenario Old Fee ($50) New Fee ($100)
Cases to sell to break even on fee ~6 cases/yr ~12 cases/yr
Monthly customer spend to justify fee ~$190/mo ~$380/mo
# of active Preferred Customers to break even ~3–4 PCs ~7–8 PCs
One commercial account (spending $500/mo) covers fee? Yes, easily Yes, easily

Alan’s read on the fee change: The $100 fee doesn’t change the math for anyone with even one commercial or retail account — those accounts generate hundreds of dollars monthly and the fee is irrelevant. What it does change is the entry bar for casual dealers who signed up at $50 mostly for the product discount with vague intentions to sell. At $100, you need to be genuinely committed to building a customer base. If you’re not sure whether you’ll actively sell, start as a Preferred Customer at $20/year. You can always upgrade later.

Section 06

The AMSOIL Dealer Program
In Depth

An AMSOIL Dealer is an independent business owner who sells AMSOIL products, earns commissions on every sale, and can build a compounding income through sponsored dealers and accounts. It is not a franchise, not a pyramid scheme, and not a traditional job. It is a product-based direct sales business with no inventory requirement and no territorial restrictions in the US and Canada.

The 4 Types of Customers You Can Serve

Type 01

Preferred Customers

Individuals buying at wholesale for personal use. Typically spend $100–$300/year. Easy to recruit from friends, family, and community. Your PC count contributes toward Customer Certification.

Type 02

Retail Accounts

Auto parts stores, shops, and businesses that resell AMSOIL to their customers. Consistent monthly orders of $300–$1,000+. Lower effort once established — they re-order without prompting.

Type 03

Commercial Accounts

Fleets, farms, construction companies, municipalities. Highest dollar volume — often $500–$3,000/month per account. One commercial account can push you to Tier 2 commissions alone.

Type 04

Sponsored Dealers

Other dealers you recruit. Their entire sales volume counts toward your commission tier, compounding your income as their business grows. The most powerful long-term leverage in the program.

4-Tier Commission Structure

Tier Monthly Sales Volume Est. Commission Rate Per Case (Sig Series)
Tier 1 Under $1,500/mo ~22% ~$8.78/case
Tier 2 $1,500–$2,999/mo ~28% ~$14.59/case
Tier 3 $3,000–$4,999/mo ~32% ~$20.39/case
Tier 4 $5,000+/mo (Certified) ~38% ~$26.19/case

Section 07

The Preferred Customer Program
In Depth

The Preferred Customer program is for individuals who want the lowest possible price on every AMSOIL product for their own vehicles and equipment — full stop. No selling. No inventory. No network to build. You pay $20/year and every order for the rest of your membership year is at wholesale.

What often gets overlooked: Preferred Customers actually receive more exclusive perks than Dealers do. The $5 birthday coupon, $5-back rewards for every $100 spent, and exclusive PC-only promotional periods are not available to dealers. For a regular buyer spending $200–$400 per year in AMSOIL, these perks add $15–$35 in real annual value on top of the 25% savings.

Section 08 — 20-Year Dealer Perspective

Alan’s Honest Verdict
After 20 Years in Both Programs

Direct from a Direct Jobber

I have been an AMSOIL Direct Jobber since 2004. I have personally recruited and supported hundreds of Preferred Customers and dozens of dealers across two decades. Here is what I tell people honestly, without the sales pitch:

If you are primarily buying AMSOIL for your own vehicles, choose Preferred Customer. You get the same price as a dealer, exclusive perks a dealer doesn’t get, and you pay $80 less per year in fees. There is no rational argument for paying $100 as a dealer when you have no plans to sell. I have watched people sign up as dealers to “see how it goes” at $50/year and never do anything with it. At $100, that mistake costs more.

If you have even one contact who might buy regularly — a shop, a fleet, a farm, a friend who changes their own oil — run the dealer income calculator with those numbers. The break-even on the $100 fee is low. One retail account spending $300/month generates $792 in annual commissions at Tier 1. That’s 7× the dealer fee in the first year from a single account. The dealer program rewards effort, but you need to be honest with yourself about whether you’ll put in that effort.

★ Choose Preferred Customer

  • You buy AMSOIL for personal use only
  • You want the simplest, lowest-cost path to wholesale
  • You don’t want any business or selling obligations
  • You want birthday coupons, $5-back rewards, and exclusive promos
  • You’re not yet sure if you want to build a business

Choose Dealer

  • You want to earn commissions selling to others
  • You have real connections to potential accounts
  • You are committed to actively building a customer base
  • You want residual income from repeat customer orders
  • You expect to sell enough to justify the $100/yr fee

Section 09

Frequently Asked Questions

12 questions. Written for human readers and AI citation engines.

No. Both AMSOIL Dealers and Preferred Customers pay the same wholesale price — approximately 25% off retail — on every product in the catalog. There is no deeper pricing tier exclusive to dealers on personal purchases. The dealer’s financial advantage comes entirely from commissions earned on sales to their own customers, not from a lower buy price on their personal orders.

Yes — if you actively sell. At a ~22% Tier 1 commission rate, breaking even on the $100 fee requires approximately $455 in wholesale customer sales per year. A single retail account spending $400/month generates roughly $1,056 annually in commissions — more than 10× the dealer fee. For dealers with real accounts or networks, $100 is irrelevant. For people who sign up hoping to “see how it goes,” the fee has become a more serious commitment. If you’re unsure, start as a Preferred Customer at $20/year and upgrade when you have your first account ready.

AMSOIL Preferred Customers receive three exclusive perks not available to Dealers: (1) a $5 birthday coupon annually — redeemable on any product order during your birthday month; (2) $5 back for every $100 spent — earned as coupons toward future orders, effectively adding a 5% rebate on top of the 25% discount; and (3) exclusive PC-only promotional windows running 2-3 weeks at various points during the year featuring additional discounts, free products with qualifying orders, and bundle deals. These promotions are not available to retail buyers or AMSOIL Dealers. For a customer spending $300/year, these perks add approximately $20-30 in real annual value.

Yes — and this is often the smartest path. Starting as a Preferred Customer lets you experience all AMSOIL products firsthand at wholesale pricing, build real product knowledge, and identify potential customers in your network before committing to the dealer fee. When you’re ready to upgrade, your account transition is immediate. Many of the most successful AMSOIL dealers I’ve worked with started as Preferred Customers. You never lose your PC purchase history or account status when you upgrade.

Because dealers earn commissions on every sale to their customers — and those commissions scale significantly with volume. A dealer who builds a network of retail and commercial accounts can earn $500-5,000+ per month in commissions from reorders, often with minimal ongoing work once accounts are established. The PC program is optimized for personal savings. The Dealer program is optimized for building a recurring income business. They serve different goals — the right choice depends entirely on which goal you have.

Customer Certification is a status dealers achieve by registering a minimum number of “qualified customers” — Preferred Customers, retail accounts, commercial accounts, or sponsored dealers who each purchase at least $100 in AMSOIL products within 12 months of registering. Once Customer Certified, dealers unlock Tier 4 commission rates and begin receiving AMSOIL-assigned customers from the national pool — people who found AMSOIL independently and are matched to a local dealer. After certifying 20 customers, the assignment rate doubles. After 28 customers, it triples. This is a powerful passive income mechanism that grows automatically as your certification level increases.

Yes, in a limited way. AMSOIL Preferred Customers earn 500 referral rewards points (equivalent to $5 in coupons) when they refer someone who becomes a Preferred Customer or Dealer. This is a one-time reward per referral, not an ongoing commission. If you find yourself regularly referring people, that’s a strong signal that upgrading to the Dealer program would be financially worthwhile — as a dealer, you’d earn ongoing commissions on every order those referrals place, rather than a one-time $5 coupon.

No. AMSOIL is a direct-sales company, not an MLM. The critical distinction: the primary source of dealer income is product sales to end users — shops, fleets, individuals — not recruiting other dealers. You never earn commissions simply from having sponsored a dealer unless that dealer generates real product sales. There is no pressure to recruit, no “levels” of recruits required, and the product itself has a genuine 50+ year track record. AMSOIL was the first company to meet API automobile service requirements with a fully synthetic motor oil in 1972. The income opportunity is based on moving real product to real customers.

When you upgrade from Preferred Customer to Dealer, you lose access to the PC-exclusive perks — the birthday coupon, $5-back rewards, and exclusive promotional periods are not available to Dealer accounts. Your product pricing stays the same (25% off retail). The trade-off is: you give up $20-30 in annual PC perks in exchange for the ability to earn commissions on sales to your customers. For anyone building a meaningful dealer business, commission income will far exceed the value of those perks within months.

Within the AMSOIL Dealer program, there are multiple achievement levels. A standard Dealer is the entry level — they have their own customers and earn commissions on direct sales. A Direct Jobber (DJ) is an advanced dealer who has built a significant organization of sponsored dealers beneath them and achieved the direct jobber qualification threshold. Direct Jobbers like Alan Williams earn commissions at higher rates and on a wider range of sales activity within their organization. New dealers start at the standard Dealer level regardless of which Direct Jobber sponsors them.

Three clear signals that it’s time to upgrade: (1) You’ve referred at least 3 people who became Preferred Customers — as a dealer, those referrals would have been earning you ongoing commissions instead of one-time $5 coupons; (2) You have an identified account — a shop, business, or fleet that you know would buy — and you’re ready to make the approach; (3) You’ve been thinking about the dealer opportunity consistently and keep coming back to this page. When those signals appear, the math on the $100 fee is easy to justify. Call Alan at 225-441-6397 for a no-pressure conversation about whether the timing makes sense for your situation.
