Frequently asked questions
Earnings range from a few hundred dollars a month for part-time dealers to $5,000+ per month for full-time dealers with established networks. Most dealers working consistently — meaning regularly contacting prospects and servicing existing accounts — land in the $500–$2,000/month range after 6–12 months of building. Use this calculator to model your own scenario. Key variables are: number of accounts, average monthly spend per account, and which commission tier you reach. Alan Williams at Lube Oil Sales can walk you through a realistic income plan for your specific situation.
AMSOIL uses a 4-tier commission structure tied to your monthly sales volume (US wholesale value):
  • Tier 1 — Under $1,500/month: ~22% effective commission rate (~$8.78/case of Signature Series)
  • Tier 2 — $1,500–$2,999/month: ~28% effective commission rate (~$14.59/case)
  • Tier 3 — $3,000–$4,999/month: ~32% effective commission rate (~$20.39/case)
  • Tier 4 — $5,000+/month (Customer Certified required): ~38% effective rate (~$26.19/case)
The jump from Tier 1 to Tier 2 nearly doubles your per-case earnings, which is why building to $1,500/month in total customer sales is the most important early milestone.
Yes — for anyone planning to sell. The $100 annual fee breaks even with the commission from selling roughly 12 cases of motor oil per year — about one case per month. A single retail account or two active preferred customers covers the fee in month one. After break-even, every commission is pure profit. If you only want personal savings without selling, the Preferred Customer program at $20/year is better value. But if you have any interest in building income, the dealer fee pays for itself almost immediately.
Commercial accounts — fleets, farms, construction companies — are the highest dollar-volume customers. A single commercial account spending $1,000–$3,000/month can push you into Tier 2 or 3 by itself. Retail accounts (auto shops, powersports dealers) are highly repeatable and often order monthly without prompting. Preferred Customers are easiest to recruit (friends, family, coworkers) but lower individual volume — you need 15–20 active PCs to match one good commercial account. Sponsored dealers provide the most leverage: their entire sales volume counts toward your tier, creating compounding income as their business grows.
Yes. AMSOIL assigns you a unique dealer referral number (like Alan Williams' #1243776) that you attach to AMSOIL.com links. When someone clicks your link and purchases, the sale is credited to you. You can drive traffic to these links through your own website, blog, social media, paid ads, YouTube, and email. You cannot sell directly on Amazon, eBay, or other third-party marketplaces — products must be purchased through AMSOIL.com or via direct orders. AMSOIL also assigns online/catalog customers to Customer Certified dealers based on geography — a passive income stream that grows as you certify customers.
Most new dealers earn their first commission within 30–60 days of starting — often from people in their existing network. Breaking even on the $100 dealer fee typically happens in month one or two. Building to $500/month takes 3–6 months of consistent activity. Reaching $1,000+/month (the milestone that feels like a real side business) typically takes 6–18 months depending on effort and account types pursued. Full-time income ($3,000+/month) usually requires 2–5 years of consistent building — but the income is largely residual at that point, with little ongoing effort needed.
Customer Certification means you've registered at least 12 "qualified customers" — preferred customers, retail accounts, commercial accounts, or sponsored dealers who each purchase at least $100 in AMSOIL products (US wholesale value) within 12 months of registering. Once Customer Certified, you gain access to Tier 4 commissions AND AMSOIL begins assigning you online/catalog customers from their national pool — customers who found AMSOIL independently and are matched to a dealer in their area. After certifying 20 customers, your assignment rate doubles. After 28, it triples.

How Much Do AMSOIL Dealers Make? The Real Numbers.

The honest answer: it depends entirely on what you put in. AMSOIL is not a get-rich-quick scheme and Alan Williams will be the first to tell you that. But for people willing to build relationships, work consistently, and serve their customers well, the income potential is real and recurring.

Part-time dealers with 5–15 active accounts typically earn $200–$600/month — enough to cover a car payment, groceries, or savings contributions — while spending 5–10 hours per week. Dealers who treat it more seriously, pursuing commercial fleet accounts and retail installers, commonly reach $1,000–$3,000/month within 12–18 months. Top-level dealers building large networks report full-time incomes exceeding $5,000–$10,000/month, though these results require years of consistent work.

The math that makes AMSOIL unique: Unlike most MLM or direct sales companies, AMSOIL dealers don't need to recruit to earn. Every retail account, commercial fleet, and preferred customer is a direct revenue source. Recruiting other dealers amplifies your tier — but it's optional. You can build a $1,000+/month income entirely from product sales alone.

Understanding AMSOIL Commission Tiers

The single biggest leverage point in the AMSOIL dealer business is reaching higher commission tiers. Moving from Tier 1 to Tier 2 — by reaching $1,500/month in total customer purchases — increases your per-case commission from approximately $8.78 to $14.59. That's a 66% raise on every case you were already selling, just by growing your volume. Tier 3 at $3,000/month pushes to $20.39/case. Tier 4 at $5,000+/month reaches $26.19/case — nearly three times your Tier 1 rate.

This tier structure is why experienced dealers focus obsessively on one goal in their first year: find one commercial or retail account. A single auto shop or fleet operator spending $800–$1,200/month can push a new dealer from Tier 1 into Tier 2, dramatically increasing commissions on all other sales simultaneously.

The Four Customer Types and What Each Is Worth

Preferred Customers are the easiest entry point. They're friends, family, neighbors, or online visitors who want AMSOIL for personal use at wholesale prices. Each PC spending $100–$200/month generates $22–$45 in monthly commissions at Tier 1. Easy to recruit, but you need volume — 15 active PCs is a good foundation.

Retail Accounts — auto parts stores, tire shops, powersports dealers — are the workhorse of most successful AMSOIL businesses. A retail shop ordering $300–$500/month is worth $65–$110 in monthly commissions, orders consistently without prompting, and can introduce you to their customer base as an AMSOIL resource.

Commercial Accounts are the highest dollar-value customers: trucking companies, construction firms, farms, municipalities, and any business operating a fleet of equipment or vehicles. A single commercial account spending $1,500/month at Tier 2 commissions generates $420/month. Landing two or three commercial accounts effectively replaces a part-time job.

Sponsored Dealers provide the most powerful long-term leverage. When you sponsor another dealer, their entire monthly sales volume contributes to your commission tier calculation. A team of 5 active dealers each doing $500/month adds $2,500 to your qualifying volume — potentially jumping your tier — while you earn overrides on their sales. This is where the AMSOIL business becomes truly residual.
