My Real-World Experience
I’ve run both oils in my SUV, my Harley, and my work truck. Mobil 1 Extended Performance is good — I won’t deny that. But after 15,000 miles, I noticed darker oil, slight valve noise, and I always had to top up around that mark.
With AMSOIL, I’ve comfortably gone past 20,000 miles without top-offs or any noticeable change in performance. The engine stays quieter, cooler, and cleaner. That peace of mind is why I’ve stuck with AMSOIL for over 20 years.
Best Use Cases
Choose AMSOIL if:
You want the longest drain intervals and fewer oil changes
You drive under extreme conditions (towing, high RPM, severe heat or cold)
You value top-tier engine cleanliness and wear protection
Choose Mobil 1 Extended Performance if:
You’re okay changing oil more frequently (every 15,000–20,000 miles)
You want a reliable oil but aren’t pushing your engine to extremes
Price is a more important factor than maximum performance
Alternatives to consider…
If for some reason neither AMSOIL nor Mobil 1 Extended Performance feels right for you, here are other strong contenders:
Royal Purple HMX – High mileage synthetic oil with solid protection and cleaning properties.
Valvoline Advanced Full Synthetic – Good for daily drivers with consistent protection but shorter drain intervals.
Pennzoil Ultra Platinum – Known for excellent cleanliness and a cleaner-burning formula.
That said, none of these alternatives beat AMSOIL for long-drain intervals and extreme engine protection.
